
Merc Tenorio
Merc Tenorio is a self-taught artist, songwriter, poet, former teacher, and a disabled veteran.
In 2016, Merc received a recognition from the 33rd Guam Legislature for sharing her talent with the island's art community since the early 80s.
After years of self-imposed seclusion, Merc decided to paint again, and has since had six successful solo art exhibitions in Guam and the Philippines.
Merc was the first featured artist in the Philippine Consulate General's Art Exhibition Series, which culminated on March 2023.
Merc has also participated in numerous group art shows.
As a disabled veteran, Merc hopes that through her art, she can reach out to others and encourage them to discover their own talent which could be a form of healing, solace, and survival.
Merc is a volunteer for various charities and has sold and auctioned off some of her paintings for the benefit of the mental patients and the underprivileged school children in the Philippines.

Most of the time I find myself focused more on the problems and worries, and less on appreciating what I have. In this painting, I try to lead the viewer's eyes to move with the water as it hits the rocks in all directions, and not to linger in just one spot. Nature provides us with the instinct to survive.

The movement of tide to and from shore creates a harmony of stillness and motion, like the neverending inhaling and exhaling of nature. But one thing to learn from this realization is that life is full of ups and downs, yet nature itself teaches us to remain steadfast no matter what comes our way.
