Dawn Lees Reyes

For the past 23 years, I have been blessed to have been selected to share my creative visions with Guam through presentations in several public spaces, most notably the Guam Museum, the Gloria B. Nelson Public Building, the Guam Regional Medical Center, and Valley of the Latte Visitor’s Center. I currently manage the Lees-Reyes Art Gallery at the Tumon Sands Plaza, providing the island community with multiple rotating exhibits showcasing local island talent. I’ve been awarded multiple grants from both the Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities Agency (CAHA) and Humanities Guåhan and have authored and illustrated several books for children. Within my time here I participated in numerous exhibits, taught art to middle school children, and have supported events that seek to perpetuate CHamoru culture.

Prior to my time in Guåhan, I completed a nine-year self-study in art in Western Europe and obtained an undergraduate degree in fine arts from San Francisco State University. I currently live and work in the beautiful village of Inalåhan.

Copy of Panglao- Guam Textures Series; 2020; Pastels on Sanded Paper; 39 x 30.jpg

Pånglao

Pastel

My morning walk often finds me on a path that wanders through the boonies that border the Eastern shores of Guam. Pånglao or land crabs are prevalent in this space, often greeting me with wide open arms and a funny grin on their crabby face.  This piece was part of a series I completed on Guam Textures, where I took notice of the small things that make Guam a beautiful place to live and experience.
